Word Mountain Walkthrough

Word Mountain seems like just a typical typing game on the surface but in truth, it's anything but typical. In this game you are in a race against your computer to reach the top of the mountain. If you succeed, you move on to the next level. If you fail, your game is over. It starts off fairly easy to allow you the chance to get a feel for what the game is asking of you but things get much more difficult as you progress. Newcomers to online typing games are going to struggle with this one. Even some more experienced players are going to find it challenging. In order to progress in this game you really need to have decent typing skills and even with decent typing skills actually beating the game will be a challenge. If you're really looking for a solid typing game that will put your skills to the test, you've found it with this one.

There are four difficulty levels to choose from in Word Mountain; easy, medium, hard and crazy. I would recommend attempting to beat the game on easy for any player or any skill level before trying to move on to the more difficult settings. For some experienced typists, easy will be a breeze but it's better to test your skills before diving into the harder settings with this one. It's far harder than the cute graphics and simple premise would have you believe. Newcomers to online typing games are definitely going to want to try things out on easy because without at least a basic familiarity with how games like these are played, it is going to be very difficult to get past the first few levels in even normal mode.

Word Mountain offers several bonuses that can definitely help you do well in the game even though you'll still need to be able to type fairly well to win. You get two of the available bonuses automatically as you play. The 'speed up' bonus is rewarded when you improve your overall typing performance in terms of speed and accuracy. This gives you a great speed boost and helps you climb up your side of the mountain much more quickly. The same can be said for the 'skip one' bonuses which you receive when you land on a particular spot on the mountain. Like the speed up bonus, the skip one bonus helps you get to the top more quickly. The other two bonuses you can receive in the game involve slowing your opponent down, making it more difficult for them to reach the top and giving you a serious advantage. Watch the bottom left corner of the screen to see when these bonuses are available and use them by hitting the appropriate number key on your keyboard.

The first bonus displayed at the bottom left corner of the game screen in Word Mountain is the 'stop' bonus. Using this bonus will stop your opponent in their tracks and sometimes will even cause them to slide back to their previous position. This allows you to continue climbing while the opponent is temporarily stuck. This can allow you to gain a lot of ground, especially if you have more than one bonus. The second bonus is the slow down bonus. When you use it, your opponent will temporarily climb their side of the mountain much more slowly, once again giving you the opportunity to gain ground over your enemy. Keep in mind though, your opponent has these bonuses available to them as well, so make sure you're prepared.

If you want to do well in Word Mountain, the mini map is one of the greatest tools you have at your disposal. The mini map allows you to see where your opponent is and whether or not you have any room for error. The mini map will also help you decide when to use your bonuses if you have them available - or if you need to use them at all. While typing quickly is important, so is typing carefully. This is try of just about all of the other online typing games but is especially true with this one. Typos slow you down. They also rattle your confidence. If you're on a good streak, one little mistake can completely throw you off course. Try to get a rhythm going. Try to follow some sort of beat. This helps you stay calm and focused on the task at hand. As you progress and the words start getting longer, you can still stick with the rhythm. Just add an extra beat or two. Finding a way to avoid frustration in this game is extremely important because once you get frustrated, you stop being careful, make more mistakes and could eventually fall behind. Once you fall behind your opponent, you'll have a hard time catching up; unless of course you have bonuses. Make sure you don't forget to check if you have any available before you get entirely overwhelmed.

Pay attention to the spelling of the word. While that often goes without saying in online typing games, it's crucial here. There are different spellings for the same word depending on which country you're in and this game sometimes alternates between spelling sets. For example, you may see 'color' or 'colour' in one level in this game and then find the reverse in another level. Don't let your mind trick you into thinking there is a 'u' when there isn't or that there is no 'u' when there is. It's a little difference but it really makes a big difference. Just make sure you're paying attention.

Overall, Word Mountain is the kind of typing game fans of the genre are going to absolutely love. It's challenging, the graphics are cute and the premise is easy to understand. Newcomers to typing games are going to have a hard time with this one but stick with it. As you play, you'll develop the skills you need to beat the game. Practice makes perfect. It just so happens that with this game, practice also happens to be a lot of fun. This is definitely one of the more addictive typing games onloine though, so don't be surprised if you find yourself coming back for more level after level.
