Bloop is a combination of shooting game and typing game. This typing game features sprite graphics, a catchy soundtrack, and simple controls.
The objective of Bloop is to prevent the bloops (colored squares resembling smilies) from falling to the bottom of the stage. This is accomplished by shooting bubbles at them. Each bloop has a letter above its head. Hitting a bloop with any bubble will slow its fall, but hitting it with the proper letter grants extra points. If a bloop hits the ground, you will lose one life. When all lives are lost, the game is over. It is OK to destroy bloops in this shooting game, as long as they do not touch the bottom of the screen.
Bloop can be controlled by using either the mouse and keyboard or the keyboard alone. You can choose which control scheme you wish to use under the options menu; the mouse control scheme is chosen by default. I advise using the keyboard control scheme in this typing game since the mouse can be cumbersome. The left and right arrow keys move your cannon. If you decide to stick with the mouse, move the mouse to move your cannon. Press any letter key to shoot bubbles with that letter.
Bloop is a fun typing game, but it is not the best tool for educators to use. Since players will have to keep one hand on the mouse or the arrow keys to move their cannon, they will not be able to keep their hands in the home row to type properly. Bloop may be useful as a semi-educational, non-violent game for students to enjoy, but if you are an educator looking for a tool to help your students practice keyboarding, it is not the best choice.
Bloop may not be the best educational tool, but it is a fun shooting game nonetheless. If you are a casual gamer looking for a unique shooter, then give Bloop a try!
